This Friday, teachers in Punjab are set to boycott a new test called the Teacher’s Training Needs Assessment (TNA). The test, organized by the Punjab School Education Department (SED), has sparked a lot of tension and opposition from teachers who fear it could lead to job losses.

Many teachers argue that the test isn’t necessary and could be used to unfairly remove them from their jobs. They feel that the department’s push for the test is a move to deliberately fail them, which they see as unjust given their qualifications and the rigorous interviews they passed to get their jobs.

Despite the growing unrest and calls for a boycott, the department hasn’t announced any delay in the test. According to sources inside the department, the test will go ahead as planned. Teachers across Punjab are standing firm in their refusal to take the test, fighting for recognition of their qualifications without having to undergo what they see as a demeaning process.

The test is being coordinated by the Punjab Monitoring and Implementation Unit (PMIU) and will be conducted online. Teachers need to download a specific app to participate in mock exercises scheduled for this Saturday to prepare for the real test. The test itself will last 40 minutes and includes an extra 20-minute grace period to help with any potential internet issues. It will cover topics like teaching methods, cognitive skills, and intelligence. Once connected to the internet, teachers can access the questions offline.

As the deadline nears, the standoff continues, with no signs of resolution. Educators are calling for the government to rethink its strategy and respect their professional dignity and status.
